Tom Benton, as an avid consumer of poetry, frequently incorporated lines of poetry in his posters to reinforce their ideas. In that spirit, the Gonzo Museum hosted a poetry reading where participants read some poems they find important.

Joe Edwards, former County Commissioner and candidate for Mayor in 1969. Hunter S. Thompson served as Edward's de-facto campaign manager and Thomas W. Benton created his first local campaign posters for the Edwards campaign. Although Edwards narrowly lost the election by 6 votes, he won a seat on the County Commission in 1972 and had a profound influence on the community through his progressive policies on land use, public transportation, and the local trails system.
